Aren't they great!
There is a neat one up by where my sister lives.
Funny story....
When they moved up there her hubby took on some 'construction' work to help them get settled and meet the community. This was a new experience for them, living in the hills.
The guy that hired him is an eco-friendly straw builder. So his very first job was with a straw house. My BIL had never seen anything like it, really fascinating...especially to an old school 2x4 framer.
But the best part is, my BIL is a straight thinking, kind of square, old fashioned, but very lovable guy. The crew of workers drank green algae for coffee breaks, ate sprouts and tofu for lunch, and stopped on a regular basis to replenish and cleanse their spiritual energy. They did a ceremony every morning before beginning their day. The foundation was blessed by elders and leaders.
Sounds okee-dokee to me, but to my BIL it was What The Heck! is going on around here? Where is all the swearing, sweating and spitting that usually happens at a job site?! LOL
As it turned out I bought my BIL a long hair wig and made him a tie-dyed bandanna which he showed up wearing to the job site at the end of the first week. Everyone laughed and laughed, his pony tail was the longest one there!
They hugged him and made a toast with algae to welcome him to the 'brotherhood'!
Now, I'm not saying that all straw builders are this way, but for my BIL the crew was as much of a learning experience as the new style of construction was, maybe more.
