Hi,
Does anyone know what is left after a labyrinthectomy?? What we still have after the surgery.... I had mine several years ago and I just can't recall what the Dr. said... My laby was considered a failure though because I still have some abnormal balance signals,so I am still dizzy and have bouts of vertigo and all the other" pleasantries" that accompany MM..... I wondered if I still have the ear crystals, many call them that and if so, would the epley exercise benefit me.. It didn't before the surgery, I do remember that.... I was told on another board that it depended on the kind of laby I had... I didn't know there were different kinds.... My husband said though I had everything removed, but I still don't know what everything is.... If anyone knows about this would you mind posting it??
Thanks, Leanne

Leanne, my physical therapist who specializes in balance issues told me that the brain remembers vertigo.  It does not remember pain, which is why we soon forget the pain of childbirth.  Vertigo is well remembered by our brain and might be at least part of the reason you still have vertigo.  Do you have it as often and as intensely as you did before the laby surgery?  I am completely free of vertigo bout, but still have periods of time when my balance is really poor, especially when I'm tired.  Did you have balance therapy following your surgery?  They help to re-train the brain with specific movements and exercises.  It does help somewhat, but I still have that off balance feeling  quite often.
